Makoto Hashikura
Product Designer. Born in Kanagawa, Japan in 1972, Makoto Hashikura received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science and technology from Keio University. After having worked at a home appliance manufacturer, he joined NAOTO FUKASAWA DESIGN as a senior designer in 2004, where he was involved in the design of products across diverse fields including consumer electronics, cars, household goods, furniture and public equipment. In 2018, he established MAKOTO HASHIKURA DESIGN. Basing its activities on product design, the studio carries out integrated creative pursuits transcending the barriers of design across a number of fields including interior design, art direction and corporate design consulting. His work focuses mainly on the design of products on a diverse scale that incorporate invisible atmospheres and sensations, designs that are somatically pleasing.
Hashikura was an associate professor at Maebashi Institute of Technology’s Department of Integrated Design Engineering from 2015 to 2017. He has been a part-time lecturer, Tama Art University’s Department of Integrated Design since 2017. He also has been serving as a juror at Good Design award since 2020. His work has won a lot of international awards, including the iF Design Gold Award 2024, iF Design Award, and Good Design Award.
